ECIA appointed new President

Thomas Seifert was appointed president in the ECIA General Assembly on 27 September 2025 in Vienna, Austria. He was a board member and interim treasurer of ECIA and also serves as a board member of the Belgian Association of Interior Architects.

Thomas Seifert is an interior architect with experience in a wide range of projects, from residential to commercial, guiding the entire process from the initial sketch to on-site coordination. As a project manager within major construction companies, he applies his technical expertise and creativity to shape complex projects within larger corporate structures. In addition, he works as a fire safety expert at a leading technical control bureau in Belgium.

The role of the interior architect is increasingly recognized worldwide for its added value, and this growing appreciation as professional is a natural outcome. The challenges of the profession are largely similar across on both a European and global level. In the future, socio-cultural evolutions, combined with the rapid digitalization driven by artificial intelligence, will have a significant impact on the field.

ECIA would like to sincerely thank Martin Thornblom and his team for the wonderful achievements they have accomplished together. ECIA today has more substance, stronger foundations and broader representation than ever before. They have successfully initiated and completed the network project supported by the European Union. This achievement provides us with a rich foundation and valuable content on which we can continue to build.

ECIA is also saying farewell on the board to Sophie Green, the driving force behind the European project, to Dominique Haag-Walthert, our dedicated Treasurer and to Loes Bliek, who served for many years with great enthusiasm as Secretary General of ECIA.

In addition to welcoming a new president, we are delighted to welcome Andoni Diaz (CGDI) and René Pier (BDIA) as newly elected board members. Davina Preca (MIDA) was re-elected as board member and will take up the role as Secretary General. Kristina Jonasson (SA), who entered the board last year will take over as Treasurer.

The ECIA is grateful for the dedicated work and commitment of all the ECIA community in building and expanding the organisation. The new board will continue the work and evolve to meet the challenges that ECIA will encounter.

The ECIA board now consists of:

Thomas Seifert (BE) / President, Davina Preca (MT) / Secretary General, Kristina Jonasson (SE) / Treasurer, Milan Illes (SK), May Fawzy (UK), Andoni Diaz (ES), and René Pier (GE) / board members.
