European Commission Launches Call for Evidence on Housing Simplification

The European Commission has launched a Call for Evidence for the upcoming Housing Simplification Package, a key initiative within the European Affordable Housing Plan. The consultation aims to identify how existing EU legislation and administrative procedures affect housing supply, affordability and the delivery of new homes across Europe. Feedback is open until 30 September 2026. 

The Commission is seeking practical input on how European legislation influences housing projects and welcomes concrete examples and recommendations to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens while maintaining high standards for quality, sustainability and safety. Areas under review include permitting procedures, planning, construction products, public procurement, energy performance and other regulatory frameworks that may impact housing delivery. 

As the representative body of the European interior architecture profession, ECIA strongly encourages all its Member Organisations to participate in this consultation.

Interior architects play a vital role in the transformation, renovation and adaptation of Europe's built environment. Your expertise and practical experience are essential to ensuring that future European housing policies recognise the contribution of our profession and support a more efficient, sustainable and people-centred housing sector.

ECIA will prepare and submit a joint response on behalf of the European interior architecture profession. To ensure that our contribution reflects the diversity and expertise of our members, we invite all Member Organisations to share their comments, experiences and recommendations with us to prepare our submission.

Member Organisations are also encouraged to submit their own responses directly to the European Commission. The consultation remains open until 30 September 2026.
