During the 2026 edition of Milan Design Week, Milan once again became the international capital of design, bringing together professionals, brands, and leading creative voices from around the world. In this context, the event “Responsible Interiors” took place on April 24, organized by the European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA) together with AIPI – Interior Designers Italia, with the aim of reflecting on the role of design in creating more responsible, inclusive, and future-oriented spaces.
The event, held at Casa Lombardia, gathered professionals, institutions, and industry experts around several panel discussions focused on safety, inclusion, and new professional standards in interior design. The closing session of the day featured internationally renowned designer Karim Rashid, who delivered the keynote talk “The Future of Design and Interior Design,” one of the most inspiring and anticipated moments of the event.
During his presentation, Karim Rashid shared his vision of how design will continue to transform the way we live, interact, and experience spaces. With a deeply human and contemporary perspective, the designer emphasized the importance of understanding design as a tool capable of improving people’s lives and creating environments that are more sustainable, accessible, and emotionally engaging.
“Everything around us is design,” said Karim Rashid during his speech, a reflection that highlighted the importance of design in every aspect of our daily lives. His words encouraged attendees to rethink the impact that designed objects, spaces, and experiences have on society and on the way we inhabit the world.
The conference proved to be especially enriching for all attendees, who had the opportunity to hear firsthand the thoughts and vision of one of the most influential designers on the international scene. His intervention concluded the event with a clear message: the future of design is not only about aesthetic innovation, but also about responsibility, inclusion, and the ability to create well-being through spaces.
“Responsible Interiors” thus established itself as one of the standout events within the Milan Design Week 2026 program, reinforcing the importance of interior design as a key discipline in shaping the future.
